Eurofighter collides with drone
Incident at Manching airfield
A Eurofighter was apparently damaged by a drone while returning from a test flight to Manching Air Base, where the Bundeswehr's WTD61 is stationed. This is indicated by the defects found on the aircraft after landing. According to reports, the pilot noticed a dull thud when approaching the runway cleared for landing.
An official statement said that the damage clearly indicated a collision with a drone. The reconstruction of the incident has so far revealed that the drone must have been controlled directly in the approach sector of Manching airfield and at an altitude of around 300 meters above ground and therefore outside any legal framework.
The incident, which took place on May 22, 2024, once again highlights the ongoing problem of illegally flying drones. The mobile detection system from CLEARDRONE reliably detects drones up to a distance of 4 kilometers based on their radio signature in the airspace.
